How I Reversed Aging (again)
Your mindset and environment matter…
I always feel sorry for the people who turn 30, 40 or 50 and say, “Now I am old…” Why? Because as soon as they tell themselves that, their body begins to age faster, like taking a command from headquarters.
Don’t believe me? There’s a Harvard study that says people who stay young-at-heart and optimistic live much longer than the pessimist who declares their age is, “old.”
Even if you’re turning 60, 70, 80 or 90, there’s no reason to give into the aging process. Your cells are listening to your thoughts, to your inner dialogue, so that’s the first thing you want to switch-up.
Another Harvard study placed senior citizens in an environment that resembled their youth, as if they stepped into a time warp.
As the New York Times reported, “Perry Como crooned on a vintage radio. Ed Sullivan welcomed guests on a black-and-white TV. Everything inside — including the books on the shelves and the magazines lying around — were designed to conjure 1959.”
What happened? The seniors emerge from the experiment with improved dexterity, vision and looking younger — all from simply altering their mindset influenced by an environment to make them feel young again.
Turns out feeling young actually made them scientifically younger. That’s because we have two ages, our biological age and the chronological age. The chronological age is how old we are in years, but the biological age is how old our organs and cells are relative to people in similar shape.
So the first step was changing my mind to stop thinking my age was old. I told myself I’m 25, though I’m more than twice that age. The result? I still get carded for alcohol, and many are astonished to find out my true age of 51.
