Rabbit (from 8 trigrams)

This is a special variation Joe created for extra purging.

Organs: massages and purges the intestines for better digestion and elimination.

Technique:rabbit cleaning
Imitating the rabbit cleaning its fur, we prick away negative stuck Qi from the abdominal area, going around in a circle, releasing the negative energy onto the ground below us. Then we stretch down to bury the negative qi in the earth, which can transmute it to good energy.

1. The Mechanics of the Movement

The Rabbit Posture in Qigong incorporates light, quick movements and a playful yet focused quality. Key mechanics include:

  • Body Position: The practitioner begins in a relaxed stance, feet shoulder-width apart, with knees slightly bent. The body is upright but soft, maintaining a sense of readiness and agility.
  • Arm Movements: The hands mimic the gentle, nimble motions of a rabbit, often moving forward or upward in light, bouncing arcs. The arms remain relaxed, with fingers softly extended or curled to reflect the rabbit’s paws.
  • Leg Movements: Gentle, spring-like movements involve slight bounces or shifts in weight, as if mimicking the hopping or readiness of a rabbit. The motion is grounded yet light.
  • Core Engagement: The core remains engaged to support balance and coordination during the subtle movements.

2. Energetic and Symbolic Meaning

  • Energetic Meaning: The Rabbit Posture stimulates quick and responsive energy flow throughout the body, particularly in the lower Dantian and leg meridians. It activates and harmonizes energy for agility, vitality, and responsiveness.
  • Symbolic Meaning: The rabbit symbolizes alertness, sensitivity, and gentle adaptability. This posture helps practitioners cultivate these qualities, fostering a harmonious blend of quickness and calm. It also represents rebirth and creativity, encouraging renewal.

3. Breath Integration

The breath complements the light and agile movements:

  • Inhale: As the body rises or prepares for motion, drawing in energy and alertness.
  • Exhale: During the downward or grounding phases, releasing tension and connecting with the earth.
Breathing is light yet deliberate, mirroring the rabbit’s quick but measured energy.
