Maha Mudra – the ultimate morning stretch

This is a great stretch to do before looking at a screen every morning. It gets easier the more you do it and helps with lower back issues, stretches the arms and shoulders while bringing in a fresh boost of oxygen.

🌀 Maha Mudra — The Gentle Seal

Normally part of advanced yoga and Taoist practices, Maha Mudra should first be modified with a cushion or blanket before trying the below stretches.

✅ Beginner’s Maha Mudra Adjustment

  • Sit on a raised cushion or folded blanket.
  • Legs softly extended with a slight bend.
  • Inhale: let the belly soften first, then allow the ribs and chest to gently expand.
  • Exhale: soften the chest and ribs, then feel a subtle pelvic floor lift with a slight forward lean — NO forced stretch.
  • Breathe naturally. Only hold the breath gently for a moment or two.
